A petition to the
provincial government will
be circulated at the Howard
Jarvis tax control meeting
tomorrow in West Van-
couver.

North Shore organizers of
the meeting will ask for
support of three proposals:

1. Equitable division of
school tax burden between
residential property taxes
and provincial general
revenue, -

2. Local voters approval
required for school budgets
that exceed 110% of the
Basic Education Program;

3. Local voters approval
required for municipal
expenditures exceeding
previous year by more than
5%.

Vancouver Alderman
Nathan Divinsky, who will
chair the meeting, has
arranged for Jarvis to field
questions from homeowners
who have experienced tax
increases ranging from 40-50
per cent and higher this
year.

Howard Jarvis, who was
successful in getting
Californians to pass the
“Proposition 13” tax control
referendum by a two to one
margin will explain how
government budgets can be
cut, and huge increases in
homeowner taxes as hap-
pened on the North Shore
this year, can be brought
down and under control.

An additional 400 seats
have been added with tickets
available at the door. The
meeting Thursday, Oct. 8.
takes place at West Van
Secondary School, 1750
Mathers, at 8:15 p.m.
