36 — Friday, May :, 1998 — North Shore News ed BACK in 1993, Chrysler introduced three versions of its new family sedan — the Chrysler Intrepid, Chrysler Concorde and Eagle Vision. ; All three shared the sar body style with some min “variations in front and rear styling. This vear, the new Concorde-and Intrepid have been given distinctive sty’ treatments which will likely appeal to different kinds of aggressive, sporty sling ich might appeal to the family man who wants a prac- ~ 1 but sporty sedan, rhe Concorde’ 's “upscale but -- sporty” styling appeals more to the Juxury buyer who wants. a big, but ‘cha y auto- “mobile: (The Eagle Vision, by the way, has been discon- ~ tinued along with the Eagle ~ brand). 22The new Concorde has a’ long, sweeping profile which starts with a short, sloping nose with a large, Ferrari-like “eggcrate”. oval grille; and unusually-shaped covered ~ headlamps which integrate “into the shape of the hood. Its swept-back windshield is positioned well-forward on the body to help create a “ Jarger passenger cabin. ‘The Concorde's trunk lid : is higher than before.and the * rai) has wo large tailights ~- instead of the full-width assembly of the previous model... The 1998 Concorde is even bigger than the previous model which was already almost 2 full-size car. The new model is 192 mm (7.6 in.) longer and about the same height and width. It’s builton the same platform with a fully independent sus- pension, and retains its long 2870 mm (113.0 in.) wheel- base. The Concorde and Intrepid are the first automo- biles to be designed entirely oma computer with French - made CATIA softws Concordes start at $26,915 software even allows simulat- ed crash-testing. Along with the Concorde’s new identity are nwo entirely new V6 engines: a 2,7-litre V6 with win over- head camshatts and four valves per cylinder, and a 3.2- litre V6 with a single over- head camshaft and four valves per cylinder. Though they're smaller than the previous V6 engines, they produc. more horsepower and get) 0% bet- ter fuel cconomy. The 2.7-litre engine pumps out 200 horsepower (up from 161 horsepower in the 3.3-litre OHV V6), while the 3.2-litre has 225 horse- power (up from 214 in the 3.5 litre V6). These engines are note- worthy for their free-revving, sporty nature, improved top- end performance, and better fuel economy. However, the base 2.7-litre engine has less low-end torque than the old 3.3-litre engine, and f would recommend upgradin 3.2-litre engine if you prefer BRAKE SPECIALISTS B.C-A.A. -A.R.A. - 1.C.8.C.
