There’s no other time of the year when we put so much emphasis on a variety of rich and ornate cookies. By Barbara McCreadie Contributing Writer We buy expensive ingre- dienis — real butter, baking chocolate, pecans and liqueurs. But aren't the results beautiful? Here are some recipes that may be new to you this year but could become Christmas traditions. Kelly’s Truffles & squares semi-sweet chocolate, coarsely chopped ¥% cup butter 3 tablespoons whipping cream 1 beaten egg yolk 3 tablespoons Swiss Almond Chocolate liqueur (buy ina one-shot bottle unless you keep it around) In a saucepan over very low heat, melt the chocolate with butter and cream — takes abcut 10 minutes and needs constant watching. Stir a bit of the hot mixture quickly into the beaten egg yolk and thea add to the chocolate mixture in the saucepan. Stir and cook very gently until thickened. Add nuts, crumbs and half the coconut and blend well. Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper. Roll the mixture into bite- sized balls and roll in the re- maining coconut. Bake at 375°F for seven to 10 minutes. The cookies are done when the candy is melted. Lift off the sheet while hot. These make attractive Christmas tree ornaments — kids love them.
