Metcalfe JOY TELLS ALL GREAT NEWS today about one of our popular Deep Cove film folk, Harold Tichenor. (That place is so busy artistically that it could be re-named Malibu North!) One of my spies tells me that Harold and his Crescent Enter- tainment partner, Gordon Mark, are just back from a happy and successful trip to Los Angeles. They were there to pick up a prestigious Award for Cable Ex- cellence or ‘‘Ace’’ award for Kurt VYonnegut’s Monkey House, a series which Crescent produced in late 1990 for Atlantis Films. The rest of the good news is that Monkey House has also been ‘nominated -for four Gemini awards, They learned this at Wednesday’s Academy of Cana- dian Cinema breakfast club event... Last Friday night the Forget- Me-Knot Ball, the annua) fund- raising gala for the Alzheimer Society, was held in rhe gracious surroundings of Michael Kaile’s Waterfront Centre Hotel. Chair- man Kathy Militum and her committee worked so hard to make this a rousing success. There were 33 tables of 10 peo- ple, with CBC-TV’s Phi! Reimer emceeing while the Anna Wyman Dancers along with Mark Hasselbach and his Sassabrass band entertained. There were two major auction items on the menu that evening. The first was a catered cocktail ‘party for 50 at the Diane Farris Gallery. This bargain was won by Dr. Bob Mclean and his wife, Grace,- for $1,500 while the dinner for 10 for another $1,500 was snapped up by Paula Startup. The same hard-working com- mittee will prepare a gourmet feast and deliver and serve the whole thing in Paula’s home on Bowen Island. While there isn’t any exact total as yet from the Forget-Me-Knot ball, estimates are that they have raised somewhere between $45,000 and $50,000...
