BCAA SURVEY Car owner satisfaction limproves CAN ADA * §S AUTOMOBILE drivers are, on average, more satisfied with their personal vehicles than they were a year ago. This according to a na- tional survey conducted by the Canadian Automobile Association. In 1989, almost 22,000 car owners across the country participated in CAA’s an- nual Vehicle Durability Survey. This year, 73 per cent of survey respondents described themselves as “very satisifed,’? as com- pared to 72 per cent last year. Perhaps more significantly, none of the larger manufacturers posted substantial losses in custom- er satisfaction — and some achieved considerable gains. As a group, European manufacturers posted the most significant gains, ac- complishing an upward shift of 2.4 per cent in very satisfied customers. Among individual manufacturers, Volkswagen and Volvo real- ized increases in this area of 3.0 per cent and 3.7 per cent respectively. Of the larger Japanese makers, Nissan and Mazda posted gains of 3.5 per cent and 2.2 per cent respectively in the very satisfied category of owners. Among North American manufacturers, the only maker who achieved a significant overall improve- ment was General Motors. GM increased its snare in the very satisficu category tv 1.4 percentge points. In the related area of aftet-sales service, specialty service shops received high ratings from motorists. Over 63 per cent of survey respondents reported being very satisfied with :nis type of service. BRAND NEW 1989 YUGO GY *4998 PLUS $500 FRY. & POI. While road salt may save countless lives from icy ac- cidents, it does take its toll on autobodies, reminds the Car Care Council of the Automotive Industries Association of Canada. Without proper maintenance on a car’s protective finish, road sait can rust fenders and corrode body sheet metal in no time. The only protection a car has against corrosive en- vironmental conditions is its primer and paint job. Just 7.6 litres, representing ap- proximately one per cent of the total cost of the car, serve as a barrier against rust and corrosion. UNIROYAL no en ‘Wwe re Better Together 1484 RUPERT ThE es 3673 NORTH VANCOUVER - Since only exposed metal can rust and corrode, trou- ble begins when a car's nicks and scratches are left un- touched. The Car Care Council recommends a regu- lar maintenance routine. Wash your car once a week with warm water. And promptly remove elernents such as salt, bird droppings and sap that accelerate cor- rosion. Follow with a good coating of wax or other pro- tective finish two or three limes a year to provide an additional buffer between the harsh elements and the car body. If you are involved in a fender bender on one of the icy days this winter, be sure that accident repairs include replacement of the rustproofing undercoat. Guaranteed Loves Prices!
