8 - Friday, Augest 25, 1989 - North Shore News — Birth control colurmn astounds reader Dear Editar: Bob Hunter’s column of July 16 astounds me. I’m sure if he re-read his copy he would have deleted his statement that birth control is so efficient we need not worry about the population explosion. Does he know about the relative NURSES’ STRIKE Barbecue in Dear Editor: The barbecue hosted by the ad- ministrators of the Lions Gate Hospital on the parking tot on Friday, July 7 (see North Shore News, July 12) was an insult to those residents and patients who looked on, after enduring two weeks of peanut butter sandwiches and apple sauce during the strike. Beware of coyctes Dear Editor: ’] want to warn animsi iovers that coyotes are once again in evi- dence in the Eagleridge/Gleneagles area of the North Shore. On July 6 around 9 p.m. we had a large, mangy-looking coyote on the rocks just behind our house. Only minutes before a raccoon (a nursing mother) had been asleep on the same recks with one of our cats close by. (They both fied up the nearest tree, we discovered later.) Since the incident we have plac- ed a curfew on our felines and they are kept in the house from & p.m. to 7 a.m. We can only hope the coyotes sleep in the daytime. Iris Cen West Vancouver effectiveness of cach method of family planning? Does he know that women in many countries which are growing so quickly are told not to use birth control, leading to poverty and misery? Access to abortion is necessary if only to remedy failed birth control methods. With recent astounding ‘bad taste’ Hospital president Robert Smith served up 900 pounds of salmon at taxpayers’ expense to please LGH striking employees, all before any agreement was ratified. It is amazing the money that can be found in hospital budgets, such as hospital managers drawing a $1,000 bonus from university hos- pitals for working during the strike. And they continue to tell us “there is no more money in the pot.’” Jobs Viken North Vancouver We ran an ad in Wed., Aug. 23 issue of the North Shore News } classifieds.
