NEWS photo Stuart Davis Savoury parking pared THE RETURN of the popular Savoury Restaurant to Deep Cove has upset North Vancouver District Council Ald. Bill Rodgers. “The public hearing process has been thwarted,’’ charged Rodgers after council voted 4-3 in favor of relaxing parking requirements in the three-storey commer- cial/residential complex to be built by Taurus Ventures on Gallant Avenue. Said Rodgers, ‘‘The owners of The Savoury restaurant were the owners of property. They sold their property and made a profit. The development goes ahead bas- ed on no restaurant and then they come back for a restaurant devel- opment. What they have done is effectively put an end-run around our bylaw requirements.”’ Continued Rodgers, ‘‘When this project came forward we had a lot of complaints from the citizens about parking. We approved the project subject to a certain number of parking requiremet:is for the development. Council has now turned its back on the prom- ises they have rade to the com- munity, and [| think that the resulting changes will cause more crowding in the Deep Cove area.” The building’s parking plan will allow for 57 spaces, including five that will be permanently reserved for the Deep Cove Yacht Clv® ta replace those that will be los: « the entry to the project. The parking space total is one more than required provided that the commercial space would be used for retail purposes. But municipal zoning would normally require another 13 spaces in order to accommodate a restaurant of the size proposed. Under the terms of the devel- opment variance permit approved recently by council, the Savoury will be allowed to share seven parking spaces with a Police not involved THE WEST Vancouver Police Department, the Wost Vancouver Police Board and the West Van- couver Police Association have announced that they and _ their members are not associated or connected in any way with the Western Canadian Police/Fire Athletic Foundation, which is presently soliciting funds under the name of ‘*The Olympic Maga- zine: The organization is presently doing business at 388-4863 Kingsway Ave. in Burnaby.
