ductory course for volunteers
who are interested in helping
people experiencing a dif-
ficult life situation, or who
are lonely or handicapped.

This four week course
starts on Monday, October
3rd at 7:30 p.m. at
Sutherland Junior Secondary
School, 1860 Sutherland,
North Vancouver, one block
east of Grand Boulevard at
19th.

Dorms Mowat, an ex
perienced North Shore
Volunteer with seniors, han
dicapped, hospital pauents
and children with learning
difficulues, will jead the
course. She is a registered
nurse, has taken the Pastoral
Institute's leadership = train-
ing, and ts currently leading
groups within her church and
the community.

Dorts will hetp participants
develop skills in helping, in
building a relationship, in
communicating and in active
listening. There will also be a
chance to meet some of the
coordinators of — volunticer
programs to find out what
1-1 volunteers do and what

opportunities are available.
This course is presented by
the Community and Adult
Education Division of the
North Shore School Boards
in cooperation with the
Volunteer ‘Action “Centre.
