The new board of
directors for CMHA consists

Marg Worrall; social action,
Doug Maxwell. Members at
large are Gail McFarland,
Doug Hartry, David
Malchow and Gordon
Stewart. The board ‘for
Marineview has David

Worrall as treasurer and the
members at large are Kate

Dillon, Ann _ Cuillerier,
Grace Moore and Anne
Bourns.

As one of his last duties as
retiring president of CMHA,
Howard. Mcliveen- -had<the-
pleasure of presenting a
cheque to the winner of the
association’s annual ‘essay
contest, Zoe Leatherbarrow,
a pupil at St. Thomas
Aquinas High School.

The short business
meeting was followed by a
\cry interesting talk on wine.

A RETIRED West Van
school principal who was
also once a newspaperman is
volunteering both his teme
and expertise now to the
students at Caulfeild
Elementary. _

Once a newspaperman,
always a newspaperman you
might say of former
Gleneagles Community
School principal Gerry
Prevost. Many of Prevost's
former students and
colleagues may not know
that, earlier, he was a news-
paperman for 13 years. He
was both a reporter, then

editor, for the Cowichan
Leader before he went into
teaching.

As a teacher, then as a
vice-principal and principal
of several elementary and
secondary schools in West
Vancouver Prevost taught
math. Since retiring in 1977

he has volunteered to help
children with math two
mornings a week at
Caulfeild. Two years ago he
stepped in to carry on a
program of enriched English
which was going to have to
be dropped. “I was trying to
fill a gap, that’s all,” Prevost
explains.

creative writing have been
published — put together in
booklet form by the school.

But it isn’t only grade Six
and Sevens who prove that
electronic age children can
write and do this well.

WV seniors get grant
towards van

Chabot has announced a
$10,275 Lottery Fund grant
to West Vancouver's
Kiwanis Park Lodge to help
purchase a maxi-V¥an
equipped with a wheelchair
hoist.

The Lodge has some 230
live independently in apart-
ments or small cottages. The
remaining 85 live in the
lodge where they receive
nursing Care.

The van provides residents

with transportation for
shopping parties, sight-
seeing trips and lodge

brown mud, squashy mud,
icky mud, mucky mud, any
kind of mud), a topic adults
might think twice about.
While this was going on,
grade two students in the
class worked on _ other
writing projects. Jason
Coleman and Tom Griffin,
both seven, collaborated on
an adventure story “The
Passage to Witch Moun-
tain”.

In Hazel Williams’ English
class grade six students are
organized to proofread and
comment on each other's
stories before turning them
in to her. For example,
