souver Chamber of Commerce,

Fellow of the Ladner Rotary
Club, Director of tie Delia Foun-
dation and the Gelta Hospice So-
ciety. Fle was a member of
Tsawwassen Lodge AF & AM
and the Fraser Chapter #30 of
O.E.S. Stan waa 2 thirty-nine
year veteran of the telephone in-
dustry and a cable television pio-
nee whom, with the assistance
of Irene, established his first ca-
ble network on Vancouver's
North Share in 1954. Delta Ca-
ble Communications Ltd and
Coast Cable Communications
Ltd. (Sunshine Coast) were es-
tablished by Stan in 1966 and
1970 respectively, Stan was a
Member of the Canadian Cable
Television Association’s Hon-
ours List ad was appointed as
one of three "Senators* of thatar-
asization. Stan’s hand and

lives of his many acquaintances,

complished. Fred was a note
man as a son, husband, father
and gtandfathar. He spent his
last years in extanded care on
the Nesth Shore. He is survived
by his wite, ‘Valetie {nee Smith)
of West Vancouver, two daugh-
ters: Susan St. James of Vaneci
ver, Penalope Nickels_of North
Vancouver, son-in-law Tony Nick-
eis, and five grandchildren: Ri-
chard, Sarah, yanine, Olver and
Conrad. Fred waz bern in
Kamsack, Saskatchewan, uf pa-
rents who immigrated from Gear-
gia, Aussia. Grother Pete and sis-
far Mary are both deceased. A
writer and photecrapher from ear-
ly years, he began his rawspa-
pe! career with the Powell River
News in 1944. Fram 1567 to
1983 tie published the 100 Mile
Free Press community weekly
newspaper, develaying it into a
national award winner. He vras a
conscientious, careful newspa-
perman known for his dedication
to integrity. Fred was a pioneer
with a spontaneous spirit. This
led hirn to the peak of the Great
Pyrarnid at sunset, many swim-
ming adventures on his iavals,
riding his horse across Cariboo
Hilts, and tuming out 2 prize win
ning newspaper. in this spirit,
members of his close family gath-
ered with Fred some months be-
fore his death to share an inten-
tional cuiebration to honour his
full and robust life. There will be
no service other than a close
