18 ~ Friday, April 10, 1992 — North Shore News HOME & GARDEN Scouting groups gather for day of tree planting MORE THAN 400 members of the West Van- couver scouting organiza- tion’s beavers, cubs, scouts, venturers and leaders will work with the parks and recreation department of West Vancouver District at 12 p.m. April 12 to plant 8,000 area-appropriate trees throughout the municipality. The project will include restor- ing some of the popular municipal parks that were damaged during storms in 199! and 1990, This year, Chatwin, Hay, Burley, Woodward, Westridge and Lighthouse parks as well as Whytecliff Park Ridge will pilot the planting. Several trees will be tagged with planters’ names on survey tape so a follow-up study can be done on survival and health of th. seed- lings. Also on April 12, the Trees for Canada project, undertaken by the 9th West Vancouver Wolf Cub and Scout packs, will take place at Lighthouse Park. Earlier this month the two groups sold approximately 1,000 seedlings to about 375 West Van- couver households to raise money for Trees Canada as well as for the Sth cub and scout packs. Bell Realty also contributed to the project. Both groups will plant about 1,000 seedlings throughout Light- house Park on Sunday. The public is invited to join in the planting by meeting the cubs and scouts at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of Lighthouse Park.
