The amateur theatre group is celebrating it 40th anniversary this weekend with a series of events, including A Showcase of Taient at their Theatrical Garden Pazty on Saturday, June 20, to which the public is invited. This year, - Vancouver Community Players celebrate their 40th — four decades of quality amateur enter- anniversary tainment. - The group actually started in the 1940s but officially incorporated in 1952 (the year Canada’s first tele- vision stations broadcasted). They played in Lonsdale and Seylyrn Halls until they landed the en- viable Hendry Hall venue where they've been happily ensconced for the past 10 plus years (no one could say exactly). Over the years the North Van- couver Community Players (NVCP) have maintained a remarkably strong membership base (currently 135) and con- sistently sell out their shows to a faithful audience. Fifteen-year NVCP member Jeannie Shore attributes the club’s success to producing a variety of shows from comedy to drama to cabaret. “We're progressive for two seasons,”’ she says. ‘’We put on productions which the public likes, and we do productions which are a bit avant garde or a littie different which ‘stretches’ the actors.’’ Recent successful productions are The Dresser, a Theatre B.C.
