By ELIZABETH COLLINGS News Reporter Normally zaaying in the BCCAA (B.C. Cr_ueges Athletic Associa- tion) league, the Blues were stack- ed up against Canadian and Amer- ican university soccer tearns. Biues coach Joe facobellis said the three wins were significant for his team because the Blues — with 12 players fresh from high school this year — were playing and defeating universities who have four years to develop a tight team, Starting on Thursday, the Blues downed Edmonds College from Washington 4-0. Friday’s game saw the Blues edge out University of Puget Sound 1-0 with Leone Corra scor- ing on a corner kick from Russell Collias. Yet to be scored against, the Blues again registered a 1-G score on Saturday, this time against the University of Alberta. Mike Dodd netted the goal on a cross from Todd Moody. Both players are from North Vancouver. All three shutouts were accomplished by netminder Craig Edwards. After winning its pool, the Blues went on to the finals where UBC defeated them 1-0 with a goal by Neil Wilkinson, a former player for Winnipeg in the Canadian soc- cer league and the tourney MVP. “We were quite pleased with the Vancouver last weekend. results because we played four games and let in one goal to a very, very good team, probably one of the top three in Canada,”’ Iacobellis said. Next up for the Blues is a match against the Vanceuver 86ers reserve team this Saturday, Sept. 23 with a 2 p.m. kick-off at Capilano College. The Blues start league play on Sunday again at Capilane College with an 11 a.m. kick off.
