A 68 PER CENT interim
imerease in electric rates,
effective April 1S, has been
granted BC Hydro by the
B.C) Lauihties Commission

Gas rates remain un-
changed at present

In ats March 20 applica-
tion to the Commission tor
an interim increase to take
effect Apml 1, Hydro said
the proposed change was
necessary, based on
esumated sales, to avoid
Operating at a loss in the
fiscal year ending March 31,
1985.

The interim rate increase
is subject to final approval
by the Commission
following consideration of
a detailed supporting ap-
plication to be filed by
Hydro no later than
September 4 of this vear

Any refund to customers
that may be ordered
following a public rate
hearing will include interest
at the prime rate charged by
Hydro’s principal bank

For a residential home
consuming 1,000 kilowatt
hours per month the interim
increase in electric rates wall
add $3 14 per month to the
homeowner's bill
