HERE’S a subject
we've broached on a
few occasions, but a
recent letter from Nina
Walji, college student
and Signals aficionado,
makes it worth cover-
ing again.

Nina commutes to school
mentions that she “sees all
sorts of trafic mishaps and
silly mistakes” in her daily
travels:

“J have an idea for a col-
umn.” Which is great
because presently, I don’s.
“Please inform people to
check their blind spots! The
number of ‘people who
neglect to do this — especial-
ly in wet and dark weather or
on busy streets — is
absolutely disgusting!”

The shoulder check is
supposed to be an elemen-
tary driving habit. It involves
a quick glance over either
shoulder as a visual check of
one’s “blind spots.” Blind
spots are those areas about
one’s vehicle which can not
be seen through the car’s
Mirrors nor with one’s ,
peripheral viston. ; ia

good reason to buy a con-
vertibie); a folded-down sun
visor (which can obscure
from view such things as traf
fic lights or street signs); and,
depending on the size of the
vehicle and its windows, the
actual body of the car which
can obscure fram view crucial
sights like lice kids and baby
strollers.
