basketball since 1976. First
there was Y.B.A. (Youth
Basketball Association),
later to be changed to

Y.B.C.
Canada). .
Today there are more than
250 boys and girls playing
the sport of basketball,
which emphasizes fair play

In 1978, the Y thought it
would be a great opportunity
for adult men to play this
highly enjoyable game. Thus
the first Mens Basketball -
League was born. That first
year a dedicated 25 men
gathered every Wednesday
evening at Upper Lynn

Hockey’s

Two new recreational
hockey leagues have begun
on the North Shore, one for
men aged 19 to 34 and the
other for seniors (over 35).

The season for the two
leagues begins this Friday at
the North Vancouver Reo
reauion Centre.

There are six teams in the
North Shore Intermediate
Recreational Hockey
League Metro” Transit,
Hollyburn, North Shore
News, Canadians, Larry's
and Cottrell

The senior league has four
teams. North Shore Flames,
Blackhawks, Drillers and
BC Telephone

The emphasis will be on
fun in both leagues

its old location (1705 Marine
Drive) to 1735 Inglewood,
called Inglewood
Centre. .

With the use of two
gymnasiums it would seem
natural to offer a high

In that year the dedicated

The Choir Boys were the
first team to win the Mens
Basketball
Trophy that year.

In 1980-81 there were 130
men playing the game on
Monday evenings, from 7:30
to 10:30 p.m. The Ar-
madillos were the winners of

the prestigious Mens Rec-
reation Basketball Trophy
for 1981. ;

The year 1981-82 should
prove to be another great
year of basketball. This fall
the North Shore YMCA will
be offering a Mens Recrea-
tional League, from Nov. 9
to Mar. 15, 1982, Monday

evenings, 7:30 - 10:30 p.m.:

Pre-registration is necessary
between October 5 and 23.
There is also a Basketball
Referee Clinic co-sponsored
by the Y and the Vancouver
and District Education-
Department. It will be held -
October 27 at7 p.m.
Pre-registration is bet-
ween October 12 and 22.
