Access fc yf disabled fmoroved at Greuse ay Mich Michael Backer News Editor MARY Fulker of West Vancouver ‘came up against a troubling obstacle a few years ago. Instead of accepting _ things the way they were, she helped to make a positive difference. Fulker, 89, is disabled. She moves through the world on a motorized scooter. One beautiful day she decided to take a day- trip to the top of Grouse Mountain. “After three bus rides I arrived and went up in the gondola only to be told I could not go on the mountain because there was no ramp avail- able. “I must admit I protested very strongly and made notes and took pictures of the many steps which led to the mountain and remarked that something should be done about it,” Fulker said. A Grouse Mountain employee called her recently to apologize for the delay in action. “The employee was very happy to tell me there is now an excellent ramp installed and they would be pleased if T would go up and use it,” she said, Fulker returned to the mountain and took the ride she had originally hoped for, “The ramp is beautifully designed and also so wide that ovo wheelchairs or scooters could ride abreast, and not only disabled persons but elder- ly people who have difficulty with stairs can enjoy walking down and enjoying the beauriful scenery as many did cn the day I was there,” she “Rulker had fine lunch, saw a good travel film - of Vancouver and rode the wild trails. Added Fulker, “I woutid like to see many oth- ers do the same.” Free 50 TicketMaster Gift Certificate * First month of local calis free. , © Free weekends. * 100 free weekday evening minutes &@ month, and 10¢ a minute after that. $2595 a mo. ¢ Free activation.
