THE LATE Marion Mossop has left $235,000 to the Lions Gate
Hospital Foundation. Born in Germany some $5 years ago,
and trained as a pharmacist, Mrs. Mossop moved to West
Vancouver as a widow in the 1950s, and worked throughout
the Lower Mainiand as a companion and cook. She felt the
gift to Lions Gate Hospital would ensure that a wide range of
people in the community would benefit.

tive Navigator Program for
secondary school students.

Trustees will ask the B.C.
Ministry of Health for $200,000 in
extra funding to see it to comple-
tion. .

District Superintendent Doug
Player told the district's education
committee Nov. 2! that the “new
approach to learning” program had
gained notice and support from four
other Lower Mainland school dis-
tricts. The districts. are supporting
West Vancouver’s bid to make
Navigator a mainstream program
for students across the province.

The Navigater Program was
originally designed to provide
senior students in Grades 11 and 12
not immediately progressing to col-
lege or university with study skills
and Jearning experience.

It has now been expanded to
include all senior students focusing
on personal management, team-
work, interaction and academic
skills.

Navigator stresses a course cur-
riculum to contribute to a student's
personal confidence, health. cultura!
participation, education, vocation
and recreation.

presently living in,” Player said.

“Navigator provides a wider
range and more relevant studies
which have as its unifying theme the
concept of life-long learning and
interests,” he said.

The program offers a network
which links Navigator students
wherever they are in the province
and provides support, access to
resources and courses delivered by
distance education technology.

When finalized over the next
several months, Navigator should
include such topical courses as sus-
tainable forestry, horticulture and
permaculture and community ser-
vices,
