Runner leads UBC team

NORTH VANCOUVER’S Lori
Durward Ied a team of six indi-
vidual female competitors and two
relay teams in the March 13 and
14 Canadian Inter-university
Athletic Union’s Track and Field
championships held at the Univer-
sity of Manitoba.

Durward won the 1,500 metre
in 4:27:51, was third in 1,000 with
a time of 2:50:14, and she was
part of UBC’s silver-medal-winn-
ing 4 x 800 relay team which
finished in a time of 9:04:01
behind the University of Toron-
to’s 8:59:93.

The other 4 x 800 UBC relay

team members include Tammy
Brumwell, Susan Chalmers and
Marcie Good.

Durward also was part of the 4
x 460 relay team which placed
fourth,

Overall the UBC women's track
and field competitors were tied for
third place with University of
Western Ontario. Windsor Uni-
versity was first and the University
of Manitoba was second.

Durward is a 1991 Pan Am
Junior Championship Games gold
medalist whose specialities are the
1,500 and 800 metre sprints.
