Council protests H. Bay
all-night ferry sailings

WEST VANCOUVER
District Council agreed
unanimously Monday night
to voice its opposition to
the proposed addition of
all-night sailings to the reg-
ular B.C. Ferry Corp.
schedule at the Horseshoe
Bay terminal.

“*We were also not consulted on
this by either the ferry corporation
or the provincial government
ministry,’’ West Vancouver Mayor
Mark Sager said.

Sager said that while a 24-hour
Vancouver Island ferry service
would probably be popular with
many regular ferry commuters, it
would have a negative impact on
Horseshoe Bay residents.

As reported in the March 22
News, the Horseshoe Bay Business
and Community Association is
opposed to the all-night ferry ser-
vice. A representative of the
association has said the service
would disrupt the lifestyle of area
residents.

A petition with about 100
signatures from Horseshoe Bay
residents protesting the added sail-
ings has already been received by
council.

but also from people from all over
West Vancouver,’’ said Sager.

Ald. Diana Hutchinson said
that she was particulariy concern-
ed about the increase in night-
time truck icaffic that would
probably result from the addi-
tional sailings.

The last ferry sailing now ieaves
the Horseshoe Bay and Nanaimo
terminals at 9 p.m. The first sail-
ings from the terminals are at 7
a.m.

Seymour town hall meeting
tonight at Dorothy Lynas

and council will hold a town hall
meeting at Dorothy Lynas
Elementary School, 4000 Inlet
Cres., North Vancouver, tonight
from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

All east Seymour residents, in-
cluding those living in the Deep
Cove, Dollarton Highway,
Parkgate, Mount Seymour
Parkway, Indian River and Roche
Point areas, are invited to attend
and share information, plans and
concerns about the neighborhood
and the community.

An open-house format will give
residents an opportunity to talk
with council members and district

staff,

ranges from updates on the pro-
posed recreation facilities in the
Northlands and the Parkgate areas

planning and fire prevention and
Block Watch programs.

Tonight's meeting is the first of
this year’s town meetings to be
held throughout the district.
