ONE HUNDRED years of ecumenical prayer and ac-
tion will be celebrated around the world on March 6
when World Day of Prayer marks its centennial.

The 1987 service, entitled Come and Rejoice focuses
on the beginnings and development of the movement.
In 1887, a young American woman, Mary Ellen
James, recognized the value of united prayer in a
world of violence and suffering. Since then the
movement has spread around the world and on the
first Friday of March each year people gather to pray
for peace and justice.

It is a time to be linked with people of all major

denominations in 170 countries and regions praying
for the same issues and hopes. Canadians have been
involved since 1919.

Services and celebrations for the North Shore will
be held at the foilowing churches:
