Reader explains why women are nervous

{am writing this letter to you to
let you know that | am shocked
and appalled at the decision of
North Vancouver City Council to
allow a photographer to use the N.
Van. cemetery for the filming of a
Dracula movie.

1 have many friends resting there
— many veterans, people who
have laid their lives on the line, in
order that you and | and everyone
else in this free country of ours can
continue to live in the manner that
we have become accustomed to.
They do deserve the right to rest in
peace and dignity.

It is as tasteless as Alderman
Stella Jo Dean’s remarks.

The use of the cemetery should
be dignified and respected.

Referring to Ald. Stella Jo
Dean’s remark that, and | quote,
“fe will bring a little life to the
area’, | have only this to say:
Perhaps she should join forces
with comedian Rodney Danger-
field. He gets no respect. She gives

none, whatsoever.

Coming from one of the leaders
in our community, | consider this
remark to be totally inappropriate
and degrading.

Helicopter ambulances
reduce trauma deaths

Dear Editor:

Your support for our efforts to
introduce helicopter ambulances to
the Lower Mainland area is greatly
appreciated. Calgary, Edmonton
and Toronto have such capabilities
with significant reduction in
trauma deaths.

Trauma is the leading cause of
death and disability for persons
between the ages of one and 40
years. Improvement in mortality
and injury rates translates into
immeasurable benefits to our
community.

At this time one has a better
chance for survival if they have a
motor vehicle crash in Bellingham
than in White Rock. Bellingham
has an emergency helicopter am-
bulance.

Time is the critical factor in sav-
ing lives and reducing injuries for
trauma victims. Citizens of the
North Shore and adjacent areas
would benefit greatly from such
improvement in our ambulance
service.
