THE MUSIC Therapy program offered at Capilano College is the only one of its kind in Western Canada. “People who go into music therapy are those who love work- ing with people and who also have musical talent,’’ says music thera- py instructor Kerry Burke. “Typically they’ve been wishing that they could put the two skills together somehow, and when they find this program they feel that they've really found their place.’ Graduates of music therapy are working al! across Canada in private practice, long term care, and other types of hospitals and health care facilities with people of all ages and all types of disabilities. ‘*We’ve had students from every province in Canada,”’ said Burke. “Phis year we have quite a few from the Maritimes.’’ There are still a few seats left for the program starting this September. Applicants must be at least two years out of high school, have a Grade 7 level of music perfor- mance, have completed Grade 4 theory or the equivalent, and have completed a Psychology 100 course.
