Shocking way with wine

The electronics industry
has come to the rescue of the
Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera
and other great Italian
wines.

Special electronic sensors
mounted on vines now
advise growers in advance of
the imminence of attacks of
Peronospora (mildew) which
causes severe damage to
leaves and grapes, and can
quickly spread throughout
an entire vineyard.

Until the ‘advent of these
sensors, growers had to
watch carefully for the
combination of the “three
tens” 10 cms of rainfall
within a two-day period,
temperatures above 10
degrees C. and vine growth
10 cms or longer.

Commissioner in Montreal,
said that this informal system
was not totally efficient,
sometimes resulting in the
excessive use of fungicides.

Developed by the Fiat
Group in Italy, the sensor,
known as Acrel 18, gathers
and analyses micro-climatic
data according to a
mathematical model. which
reproduces the cyclical
behaviour of the mildew tn
its various phases.

100 years ago, is on the
cluster to the extent that the
entire harvest can be
destroyed unless spraying
takes place.

This new device will make
a major contribution to the
quality grapes and towards o
better yield in the vineyard.
