ROBERT Nesta Marley was born at his grandfa-
ther’s house in Sr. Ann’s, Jamaica on Feb. 6, 1945
and spent most of his childhood years in
Trenchtown, Kingston.

During his career the reggac superstar perfornted price in
Vancouver at the Queen E. Pheatre in 1976 and at the Pacilte
Coliseum in 1978.

Marley died from cancer on
May 11, 1981.

pertorm live on stage ar the
Palladium on Feb. 5 in honour
of Bob Marley’s 54th birthday:

Bounty Hunta and the
Mautineers, Roots Reunion, Full
Circle, Tropitonics Steel Band,
Boombi-G, Sister Omoye,
Apachie Scratchie, Dub Vibes
Band, Zukie and Indian Lion.
Barrett, heard locally on CO-OP
Radio and CITR- FM, will MC
the event.

There will be Marley music
and videos with birthday cake for
everyone, Jemaican food will also
be on sale.

Tickets to the event are limit-
ed and it is recommended thar
they be purchased in advance.

Dub Beat in business

REGGAE music veterans Earl Powell and Jerry
Maytals have just released a new CD on George
Barrett’s Dub Beat Music label as a duo under the
name Fanny & Jerry.

The tide cur Monkey Mau reters
back to Jerry’s original band the leg-
endary Toots and the Maytals
although he has since moved on and
now lives in the U.S.

Earl Powell played with several
bands in Jamaica before hooking up
with ferry when he left the Maytals in
1980,

The album was recorded at Rack Tower Studio in
Brooklyn with Powell and Maytals splitting the writing and
production duties. Both also play keyboards and percussion.

A sccond CD of various Jamaican artists called Vocal D]
Duis Dance will be released later this year on Dub Beat Music.
Barrett is currently putting the finishing touches on the disc
which includes Ian Sweetness, Roland Thriller, Matty Pabio
and Larry & Bosky aniong others.
