Police investigate
telephone prank

A phone prankster pre-
tending to be a police
officer has traumatized
five to 10 North Shore
residents with bogus

news that family mem-
bers have died.

For the past two months, a
male prankster has dialed up
people late at night and asked
them to go-to Lions Gate
Hospital to identify the body
of 4 family member, said
North Vancouver RCMP
Const. Tom Seaman.

“Most people realize it’s a
stupid prank and phone us
immediately,” said Seaman.

But on one cvening, a
North Vancouver RCMP
officer was called to the hos-
pita! after someone had fallen
for the ruse.

A second victim arrived
after falling for the same
story.

Seaman said the prankster
has gone as far as using the
name of a rea, RCMP officer
working at the North
Vancouver detachment.

Police are racing calls.

The fast prank call was
traced to a suspect, said
Seaman.

The police officer said that
“some very —s immature
teenagers” are believed
responsible.

The North Vancouver
RCMP. investigation of the
twisted prank continues.
