Sandwich Generation not
prepared for Health Crisis
A lack of planning for home
care is about to explode into
a crisis for a generation of
Canadians sandwiched
between the competing
demands of caring for
young children and aging
parents.

Caught off guard by a sud-
den need for help with an
aging parent or an ill or
injured family member, and
unfamiliar with the chang-
ing health care system, the
"sandwich generation" is
facing enormous exotional
and financial strain, family
tension and guilt.

“We understand that people
naturally tend to procrasti-
nate when it comes to think-
ing about emotionally diffi-
cult situations like the fail-
ing heaith of a loved one.
But without adequate plan-
ning, people often feel lost
and frustrated. They don't
