heart. True confessions. Or,
in Japanese, a little Kokoro,

Or maybe, as appears to be the
case for many North Vancouver
City residents. a lot of Kokoro, As
was the cuse on a recent Priday
night.

The mid-Lonsdale restaurant
opened last December by Hiroshi
Kawai has taken firm root in the
once tawdry environs of the Big
Scoup ice cream parlor — from
heart-stopping fire to heart-smart
cuisine — which is more good
news for dining quality along the
city’s main strip.

Kokoro filled fast during our
dinner and it stayed that way until
we left. Diners in a steady stream
rolied through the restaurant's
doors searching for some genuine
Japanese heart, or, at the very least,
some good quality sushi.

At Kokoro there's healthy serv-
ings of both.

The worn soda fountain kitsch
interior of the previous tenant has’
given way to minimalist Japanese
lines framed in a dignified wood
and royal biue motif. In place of .~,
the ice cream-spattered Big Scoop”
counter is a sushi bar ringed with
