Downunder they'd call this ‘‘a
nice drop” to wash ‘em over your
tonsils with. Surprisingly full-
flavored and softly rounded wine
from a grape that can be sharpish
if clumsily handled, particularly
since there's no semillon for
ballast here.

Melony fruit with a hint of
lemon zest and a nice finishing
touch of oak. A perfect golden
glass to toast the beginning of
summer. Let the prawns burn;
bring us another flagon, Bruce!

their cosy deep-woods “Off Cen-
tre’”’ retreat, it bounced around in
the cargo bay over nine km of
rough Forest Service road before
opening. Does it ‘travel’ well?

And how! Zin’ is traditionally
a source of big roughhouse reds,
but the only rustic note here was
the kamikaze Birkenhead mos-
quito who mistook my glass for a
swimming pool full of Type O.

About as “‘rustic’”’ as an Armani
suit; luscious supple fruit struc-
tured to last into the 21st century,
the equal of any Chianti Classico
for complexity and makes most
Bordeaux in this price-bracket
taste like Mom’s old cooking wine.
A serious bargain.
