SENIOR SERVICE TWO WEST Vancouver women, Susan Macintosh and Lesley Feansvaag, have started up a new service culled Belle Amie, which is geared towards senior citizens liv- ing on the North Shore. Personal experience with their own families have taught Macin- tosh and Fransvaag how impor- tant mobility and independence are to senior citizens. However, not every senior on the North Shore has family avail- able io them when they need assistance and not every senior en- joys the thought of going out alone. Belle Amie has been designed to assist seniors in getting various Projects and chores done in a manner which maintains their mobility and independence. Some common requests for assistance have included: @ travel to and from medical and dental appointments; ® grocery shopping; ® running general errands. Macintosh said that one client even asked for a Mah-jong part- ner twice a week. She added that decause everyone has individual needs, Belle Amie has a flexibility that caters to those requests and con- sequentiy customizes the service to fit the needs of the client. Macintosh said the service of- fers reasonable hourly rates and Belle Amie extends those same fates if two or three seniors wish to share the cost. The Canadian aboriginal team, representing a cross-section of First Nations across Canada, competed for gold from Oct. 1i to 15 against seme 14,000 chefs from 40 countries. “This has been the most ex- citing experience of our lives,’’ said team member Bertha Skye, of Six .Jations Reserve, Ohsweken, Ont. ‘‘We are proud to have rep- resented ahoriginal people at the Culinary Olympics and we are honored to bring so many goid medals back home to Canada.” The Canadian Native Culinary ‘Team served up 4 menu of Native haute cuisine, inspired by and Prepared using the traditional foods of Canada's aboriginal people Undians, Inuit and Metis). Aboriginal food products for the chefs were provided by Canadian native suppliers. The team entered the competi- tion under the guidance of George Chauvet, seven-time gold medallist at the Olympics. The five-person team returned to Canada Oct. 16, in much-needed . Funds for the foundation will be raised through a variety of ac- tivities, This Christmas, Wood- ward's stores will be selling Woody T. Bear, a stuffed teddy bear for $9.99, SI of which will go towards the foundation. In addition, donation boxes will be placed in all Woodward's stores.
