PARENTS are doing the
best they can and deserve
recognition during the se-
cond annual nationa! Family
Week, according to a North
Shore Family Services
spokesman.

Claudia Webber, a child
psychologist and coordinator of
the services’ education and volun-
teer programs, said she will be
stressing that theme during a talk
on parenting Wednesday, Oct. 8.

National Family Week takes
place Oct. 6-13, with the primary
purpose of focusing on the role of
the family, its caring for its in-
dividuals and its contributions
towards society.

Webber's talk at Highlands
Community School, from 7:30 to
9:30 p.m. costs $2 or a donation to
North Shore Family Services.

She will also give a talk on
parenting an adopted child Mon-
day, Oct. 6 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.in.
at Balmoral Junior-Secondary
School.

Also being highlighted during
Family Week at North Shore Fam-
ily Services is the organization’s
Family Drop-In program.

Coordinator Bonnie Robertson
said the program has been
operating for the past 10 years,
and has expanded to seven drop-in
centres throughout the North
Shore.

Parents are encouraged to bring
their children to a drop-in centre
nearest them. She said the centres
provide a place for parents to meet
one another and to relax over a
cup of coffee, and a place for the
children to gain socialization skills
through play with other children. *

The drop-in centres are at
Seycove Community School Mon-
day, Wednesday and Friday from
9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Lynn Valley
