waterways for fun

FOR A EUROPEAN holi-
day without the bustle of the
crowds and the tourist traps,
many people are discovering
the pleasures of boating on
British waterways in sum-
mer.

David Conn, librarian,
traveller and photographer
has enjoyed four such holi-
days, and will share his
slides and his stories at the

main Lynn Valley branch of
North Vancouver District
Library on Tuesday, July 9
at7 p.m.

Each holiday has a subtle
character of its own, from
the mellow and meandering
Thames and Avon rivers in
the South to the wide-open
spaces of the eastern Fen
country or the wilder splen-
dor of the Llangollen canal
in North Wales.

A boating holiday is not
all easy cruising - Mr. Conn
will describe some of the
tricks and treats of
navigating flocks, coping
with tides and other
“hazards’".

This is a special holiday
program for the whole fami-
ly, and there is no charge.
