Teams from Vancouver Island, White Rock, Kamloops, Langley, all over the lower mainland as well as the two North Shore Summer Swim Clubs provided an outstan- ding weekend of competition. Many of the Cruisers’ A swimmers proved they are settling in firmly by improv- ing times and placings from heats to finals. Top Cruisers in the finals were as follows: Div. 7: Janet Oakes won the100 back placing 2nd in the 50 free, 3rd in the 200 I.M. and 4th in the 100 free. Megan Geary’s best placing was a 3rd in the 100 back West Ender game in the Sea Korean Arto -TAE KWON-DO KARATE ruisers tur with 4th in the 200 I.M. Div. 6: Best performance for Div. 6 boys was Corin Hopkin with 3rd in the SO fly. Div. 4: Stephen Thom finish- ed 4th in the 100 breast. Div. 3: Sabina Thomson piaced 2nd in the 50 free and 3rd in the SO fly. A strong Div. 3 boys’ team was led by Jason Thomson who placed 3rd in the 50 back and 4th in the 50 free. David Reid plac- ed 4th in the 100 free. Div. 1: Kim Dobbin was 3rd in the 50 breast and 50 back and 4th in both the 50 free and 50 fly. In the Senior Open category, coach Craig Mc- Cord won the 50 free and was 3rd in the 50 fly. Relays: Medley, Div. 7 Girls 2nd, Div. 6 Boys 3rd, Div. 4 Girls 6th and Div. 3 Boys Sth. 200 Free, Div. 7 Girls 2nd, Div. 6 Boys 3rd, Div. 4 Girls 8th, Div. 4 Boys 3rd and Division 3 Boys 4th. Cruiser Divers at the same Coquitlam Sharks _Invita- tional produced some excep- tional performances. In the 10 and under competition, Kyle Gostigg placed second on the | metre board. Boys 11-12 competition saw Lee Macri take second on both the 1 and 3 metre board. In girls 13-14 competition, Tina Frederiksen was injured in warm-up but still managed a 6th place finish aganst stiff competition. She was unable to compete in 3 metre. In the boys 13-14, Merritt Hutchins took home two trophies win- ning both the | and 3 metre boards. In the Senior com- petition, Ed Hanlon placed 3rd on both boards. Congratulations go to Carolyn Reeder. Her dedica- tion and hard work paid off, for as well as_ receiving awards for Top Freestyler and Butterfly, Carolyn was also awarded the Rita Met- calf Trophy for Best All- Around Otter. The whole team is looking forward to her leadership in the 84/85 season. The Ambassador Trophy went to Tanis Saxby, who was chosen by her fellow swimmers for her delightful personality, conscientious training habits and also her year of successful swimming. Recognition was also given to ten swimmers who have, over the year, qualified for the Junior Western Na- tionals. Considering that on- ly four swimmers qualified last year, this was a signifi- cant improvement.
