GE community roundup gg | Private hospital closing March 31 LONSDALE PRIVATE Hospital will close its doors on March 31, and its patients will move to the new Cedarview Lodge. The North Shore Health Department is requesting North Vancouver City and District councils to extend Lonsdale’s lease until March 31, because Cedarview, which was supposed to be finished in December, now cannot be completed until January 31, 1983, with admission of patients beginning in early February. City council approved extending the lease from the end of 1982 until March 31, provided District council also gives its consent. City Mayor Jack Loucks paid tribute to the staff of Lonsdale Private Hospital. Though the facilities weren't -an arehiteecturat delight, the staff made the patients feel they all belonged to one big family, the mayor said. THIRTY YEARS of working at Lonsdale Private Hospital, ever since it opened, Ad- ministrator Jean Baillie is pictured in front of the building which closes at the end of March, with Superintendent Marie- Louise Graf (on the right). Residents of the hospital, which was converted to an ex- tended care unit from a former nurses’ residence, will be moving to the newly- completed Cedarview Lodge. School closures meetings set AS AN INTEGRAL part of the long range plan for the School District of West Vancouver, the School Board is considering the closure of five elementary schools as of September 1983: Eagle Harbour; Cypress Park: Pauline Johnson; Cedardale; Glenmore. Other steps recommended by the superintendent of schools include’ the relocation of the majority of Grade 7 students to their respective secondary schools and the transfer of one French immersion stream to West Bay Elementary School. In order to provide more detailed information § to parents and other interested parties, two public meetings will be held — tonight (Wednesday, February 2) at Pauline Johnson = and tomorrow (Thursday, February 3) at Glenmore. Both meetings start at 7:00 p.m. These meetings will provide the opportunity to obtain more information concerning the District's plans and allow the com- munity to present views and opinions to the District staff. It is anticipated that a decision on these plans will be made by the Board within the next two weeks.
