He stuck a refrigerator into the hole. Ed Swierczyk, who an- swers the mayor's service hot line, said he got a complaint from a resident about a big pothole in the 700 block of Gross Street. Swierczyk said a public works division truck driver INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (UPI)—Police left holding an empty casket would like to find its owner — or at least someone who knew the owner. Detective Jim Faulkner said a man looking for walnuts in a wooded area about a quarter mile north of an apartment complex found the casket and summoned - police. The area was searched: ‘Dut: detectives said they did:not spotted the pothole Tuesday and decided it was a safety hazard and he had no road barricades on his truck. “People use the end of Gross Street as a dump,” said Swierczyk. “It seems logical that the guy knew that, found an old refrigerator in that dump and put it in the hole.” Another crew was dispatched later with proper barricades and _ the refrigerator was removed. It had done its job. Who owns the casket? come up with anything to help them. Faulkner said the casket appeared to have been “dented up” but added it was not known if there had once been a body in it. - HAVING OBEDIENCE | PROBLEMS?
