B2 - Sunday News, September 27, 1981 RACING to the end of what has been a good bat not a great season, Marty Knoll had to settle for fifth place at Portland. AT PORTLAND The final race of the International Conference of Sports Cars Clubs (ICSCC) 1981 championship series was run last weekend at Portiand Internationai Raceway with several North Shore drivers participating, with mixed results. Marty Knoll, driving his Microlon/Cleanco Western Sponsored Formula Vee, had to settle for fifth place in his race. Knoll started in fourth place on the grid and maintained this position throughout the first lap. But on the second lap, Knoll was forced to the outside of turn two as another driver made a move. This put him on a portion of the track that was still wet following a torrential rainfall. Knoll cnded up doing a 360° turn in the best stunt driver style, leaving him about ton seconds behind the leaders Though he managed to keep up the pace, Knoll had to settle for a fifth place finish. North Shore driver Tim Moore drove his Datsun 240Z well all weekend, and qualified on the _ pole position for his race. The start of the race was five-car battle for the lead, and Moore temporarily lost his first place position.
