Feds give PM
$1,500 funding

North Vancouver's
Presentation House is one of
five Greater Yancouver
groups to receive a grant
under the federal govern-
ment’s Cultural Initiatives
Program.

The $15,000 grant an-
nounced by Senator Ray
Perrault is to assist the North
Van cultural centre in
“management develop-
ment.”

The federal program -- set
up to assist arts and cultural
organizations and activities

across Canada -- is operated
by the Department of
Communications.

It is financed through
revenues accruing to Ottawa
under the 1980 ‘federal-
provincial lotteries
agreement.

The other four Greater
Vancouver organizations
sharing a total funding of
$70,000 are the Arts Club
Theatre, Vancouver East
Cultural Centre, the Western
Front Society and the Paula
Ross Dance Society.

wins commendation

A Canadian Forces officer
from North Vancouver has
been honored by his unit for
his community work.

Captain Mike Newell, son
of Hank and Margaret Van
Winkle of North Van and
stationed at Canadian Forces
Station Alsask, Sask., was
tecently awarded the
Commanding Officer's
Commendation for his out-
standing contribution to the
community as editor of the
local paper and TV guide.

He was also cited for his
work as unit information
