Over two years . ago homeowners in the = area referred to North Vancouver City council's ‘indecision’ in determining what to do with the area and this indecision is reflected by the fact that the area is one of only three in the City that included in the community plan. Plans and =o surveys for development of the area were prepared for the City in 1974, 1976 and 1977 and a number of public mectings were held to discuss the various plans. Most centre on the question of retaining the single-family naturc of the area or redeveloping it to a higher density In 1978 a development was not official proposal was accepted by council, This called for. retention of single family homes on Tobruck Avenuc, 7th street and Yorkshire Crescent, garden apartments on most of loth street, and commercial on the west end of loth, and 15th strect But in October 1979, Paul Murphy. now the owner of the Hamilton Fel} Development Corporation presented a development proposal to City council. His plan, based on a survey of the area, called for the following development: townhouses on the north side of Yorkshire Crescent; garden apartments on the south side of Yorkshire, 17th street and Tobruck Avenue; medium density housing on most of 16th Street, and commercial in the rest of the arca Because of presentation, Murphy s councel decided to prepare a further study for the redevelopment of the arca Vhis study was scheduled to be completed by January soa pubhe mecting Could be held for residents to Consider the proposals put forward But this was not done and the study wall not be released until late this month of sometume in December arher this month Murphy distributed another copy of his proposal to arca residents entitled “The Hamilton Fell Re Development Issue Review and tober 1980 his fensive Update Oe study included ca color photos of the arca and press reports on the areca oas owell as councal minutes outhning what had happened Unal the time thar any new foning plan iw adopted by Council the areca remains zoned — for single — famualy homes Peter Watkins, a spokesman for the group, said they “felt it would be a good thing” if the meeting was restricted to property owners so that people could express views they may have been reluctant to voice in public. After the meeting, Watkins gave a two sentence CORROSION ALUMINUM. 24 HRS. release outlining what had occurred at the meeting. “The majority of property owners of the Hamilton-Fell area have decided it would be in there best interests to act as a group,” he said. He addition, he said “there is a strong indication that they favor some sort of development” for the area. t quick decision | | € wu 1 J Watkins would not comment further on what had occurred at the meeting. The statement that Ham'!ton-Fell residents favor some sort of devel opment in the area, is not surprising, and the same conclusion was reached in a ~ study conducted by Paul Murphy las! uimmer.
