"Recreation Association, at its recent ' annual general meeting in Vancouver, approved unanimously a_ resolution calling on the Prime Minister of Canada to declare an- nually a ‘‘National — Recreation and Parks’ Week”. The resolution, brought forward to help further promote this nation’s public recreation and park systemis, also invites chief officials of . local governments to ob- serve such a week with appropriate ceremonies and activities. Other major resolutions passed at the AGM, which was attended by delegates from throughout the province, called for development in the 12 geographic areas and in- crease in monies for work in these areas of the province; staff hiring grant, increases in provincial administrative grants to small commiunities; establish of a basic grant for small communities to for- mulate master plans, and the cost of Hydro power in recreation facilities. Three citations were awarded to people Who have made an outstanding con- tribution to recreation in the province. The outstanding achievement award went to Dean Neville Scarfe, the Award of Merit went to Herb Bradley of Courtenay and the past president's award went to Al Thiesen. Marguerite Shigehiro, recreation co-ordinator for the City of Vancouver at Champlain Heights School, was re-elected to a second term as president of tho Association.
