THE home built at 350 East Second St. for the Hammersly family in 1904 soon
became a private hospital, owned and operated by Dr. E.A. Martin and Dr. W.E.
Newcombe and then by the Dawson sisters, who also established the public
North Vancouver Hospital. In later decades, as Emerald Park Lodge, it served as
a boarding house and a rest home. Declared a heritage building, it housed the
: first of severai restaurants in 1988, closing in 1997. The Ciiy of North Vancouver
is now considering three offers for the purchase of the property, which will
- require legal heritage protection and exterior restoration as part of the sale agree-
