Vancouver Shipyards’ Lewis said that no negotiating sessions beoween the OTEU and the employer are scheduled. “If they were to call us and wanted to sit down we'd certainly be willing to listen, but our position is not going to change,” he said. Lewis said the OTEU members have been offered the same increase shipyard workers accepted a few months ago. The company has offered raises of 30 cents, 40 cents and 50 cents an hour ona contract that is retroactive to Nov. 1, 1996 and pays the last increase on Nov. 1, 1998. The union wants increases of 60 cents, 45 cents and 55 cents. OTEU workers at Vancouver Shipyards make $2,276 to $3,938 a month. The resumption of work at the drydock allows Vancouver Shipyards to continue to aim for a late December delivery date of all its units for the first of three fast ferries it’s helping to build for B.C. Ferries, said Marcus Davidson, the manager of the fast ferry program for Vancouver Shipyards. The units must be delivered to a North Vancouver facility, where units from various B.C. shipyards come together to be assembled into the sleek catamarans promised for the Horseshoe Bay-Nanaimo route. APEC visitors will tour the Catamaran Ferries International assembly facility Sunday. The provincial government has bankrolled the $222 million fast-ferry project through B.C. Ferries. Victoria’s goal is to revitalize what had been a shrinking B.C. shipbuilding industry by making catamarans for sale offshore. TAGHeuer SWISS MADE SINCE 1860 eouctina KIRIIM _ —.
