DEAR BARBARA: I've
never taken a flight of more
than two hours (even less,
really — Vancouver to
Calgary). 've booked a non-
stop Wardair flight to
Europe in the spring and I'd
hike to know what in hell you
do to stay sane through ten
hours of droning along over
mountains, sea and sky?
ANSWER: Eat, sleep and
watch the movie. Read, do
needlepoint, molest the the
nearest passenger as long as
it’s your husband or
designated spouse. Watch
the sunset-sunrise within five
siinutes. Write in your diary.
Go to the washroom and
brush your teeth. Ask the
fight attendant for (1) A
coloring book, (2) A deck of
cards. Count the wrinkles on
the back of your mght hand.
H all else fails, go for a walk
on the wings. Just be glad
you're going.

want to go anywhere. In
fact, } think you've got be be
crazy because you seem to
get such fun out of leaving
our wonderful country, your
home, your family = and

everything and going to
someplace where nothing is
as good as home. How can
you doit?

ANSWER: 1! think my
Great-Grandfather was a
gypsy or else he travelled a
lot. Probably to avoid either
my Great-Grandmother or
the bank. As a kid, I moved
across Canada_ especially
when Dad was in the Air-
force. Trains were a helluva
lot more fun than school
When | went to university, I
lived for four years out of
one trunk and a couple of
cardboard boxes. Since
then, I've lived in the same
house for 19 years. Do you
wonder why | travel?

QUESTION: We've got a
seven-hour layover in
Chicago and want to leave
the airport and see the city.
We thought about hiring a
cab. Is there a better way”
ANSWER: This was a
phonecall, and I asked when
the flight would arnmve in
Chicago. Answer: six-thirty
a.m. I suggested taking the
airport bus into the city.
getting off at one of the best
hotels. From there. there 1s
usually a bus tour of the city,
probably departing at 10:00
a.m. tll about noon. Rush
back to the airport and grab
your flight.

It would be fun to have
either breakfast or lunch at

getting confused. First ] read
that it is best to travel light,
leaving everything in one
bag, checking it to your
desunauon and expecting
everything to arrive when
you do.

Then, I read in a fancy

magazine that a smart lady
traveller carries everything
she'll need for 48 hours in a
satchel that she carries
aboard. That seems to be a
nuisance and I'd like to
know how much faith I
should put in an airline to
keep my bags on the same
fhght ('m on.
ANSWER: I won't promise
that your bags will follow
your route but I’m nearly
sure that you'll get them
damn fast. I’ve travelled the
odd mile and haven't lost
one of my own bags yet.

If I'm going for a long
distance, I like a satchel with
a robe and cosmetics.
Shortly after take-off. I
retire to the “blue room” and
jon the robe. Later, I use
the cosmetics, the washroom
