Golf, fish- ing, flightseeing, heli-hiking, river rafting, horseback riding and camping are just some of the numerous activities that await visitors to Whistler. And while the winter months attract a large number of visitors to Whistler, the summer months are equally busy. Golf is probably one of the most popular summertime activi- ties enjoyed by people who go to Whistler, Arnold Palmer, one of the statesmen of the game, discovered Whistler when he went to the resort to design one of the area’s two golf courses. His design in- cluded allowing water to come in- to play on 13 of the 18 holes, Palmer was on hand to official- ly open the Whistler Golf Club on Aug. 22, 1983. The other golf course at Whistler is the Chateau Whistler Golf. Course, which is slated to be officially opened this spring. The course is actually situated on the side of a mountain. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the Chateau Whistler Golf Course includes waterfalls and streams running off the side of Blackcomb Mountain. A third golf course is currently being designed and built for the Whistler area. Called the Green Lakes Golf Course, the course is being built by Burrard Interna- tional Developers and designed by golfing great Jack Nicklaus, and set to open in August of 1994. In the heart of Whistler Village, you can walk through the streets without worrying about traffic; there isn’t any.
