CMA honors two N.S

TWO LOCAL physicians
have been elected to senior
membership in the Cana-
dian Medical Association
(CMA).

Dr. Robin Beil-Irving of West
Vancouver and Dr. John (Jack)
Douglas Hamilton of North Van-
couver received the special recog-
nition for having distfiguished
themselves in their medical careers
by making a significant contribu-
tion to the community and to

their profession. ‘

Dr. Bell-Irving, a Fellow of the
Royal College of Physicians and
Surgeons of Canada, served as a
medic during the Second World
War, and shortly thereafter joined
the staff of North Vancouver
Generali (now the Lions Gate
Hospital).

In 1971, the first extended care
unit attached to an acute care
hospital was opened at Lions
Gate, and Bell-Irving served as
its first medical coordinator

and director.

Hamilton began his ¢

UBC. Following an internship at
Vancouver General, Hamilton
began a gencral practice that he
continues to this day in North
Vancouver. A past president’ of
the Greater Vancouver General
Practitioners Association,
Hamilton has chaired and repre-
sented the North Shore on many
committees and associations.
