WV legion donates $4,770 to ultrasound department WEST VANCOUVER Legion Branch #60 representatives recently presented the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation with a cheque for $4,770 toward the purchase of a $18,000 transvaginal probe for the hospital’s ultrasound department. Dr. Mary Graham, clinical director of Diagnostic Ultrasound, is enthusiastic about the benefits of the high frequency probe. ‘*We will use this to complement our ultrasound scanning as it gives a better resolution of the lining of the uterus and we can look at masses next to the ovaries,’’ she said. ‘‘It also provides much better imaging for obese patients where excess tissue interferes with regular scanning.’” The probe will also be appreci- ated by patients who have bleeding in the early stages of pregnancy because in many cases it can verify immediately whether or not their pregnancy is viable. “It is very difficult to wait and wonder for weeks,” Dr. Graham said. ‘‘We appreciate being able to give reassurance right away.” The West Vancouver legion makes an annual contribution to LGH to help purchase hospital equipment.
