tune-up done at least once a

you do a lot of driving. A

run. .

Your greatest asset in
detecting potential problems
is your senses. Look, listen
and feel for unusual sounds,
strange vibrations, and
changes in performance.

Different or unusual
sounds are often the fizst in-
dicator that something is
wearing or is in need of
repair.

For example, a clicking
sound from the engine can
mean a problem with the
valve train and rocker arms.

A shrill squeal from the
engine compartment can
mean a loose belt on the
power steering pump. -

A scraping sound from the
front wheels can mean worn
brake pads. If your tires
squeal when you turn a cor-
ner quickly, your tires may
be underinflated.

It’s not so important that

egular car maintenance pays off

you know what the sound is,
but that you realize it is dif-
ferent than the usual sounds
your car makes.

A simple visual check out-
side your car can pinpoint
possible problems. Are the
