Five 1989 RX-7 models offered

Each

FOR MORE than a decade, the
Mazda RH-7 has provided
technical sophistication, _ rotary
engine reliability and en-
joyment to sports car buyers
around the world.

For 1989, Mazda has increased
the performance and refinement of
the RX-7, making it an even better
competitor in the sports car field.

Five RX-7 models will be of-
fered in 1989: Base, GX, GXL,
Turbo and Convertible.

In addition, the GXL model will
be available with 2+2 seating.

Each of the five models has its
own distinct identity and was
designed to appeal to a different
type of buyer.

The Base is the lowest-priced
RX-7, offering good value for
buyers seeking a true sports car.

The GX and GXL are designed
to provide @ higher level of com-
fort.

The Convertible delivers the en-
joyment of open-air mctoring
combined with the performance of
an RX-7.

The Turbo is the ultimate ex-
pression of the RX-7 in terms of
performance and technology.

The unique rotary engine power-
ing the RX-7 has been refined,
delivering 160 brake horsepower in
normally-aspirated form and 200

brake horsepower with turbo-

charger.

Torque has been increased in
both engines as well, to 140 ft.-ibs.
in the non-turbo engine and 196
ft.-Ibs. in the Turbo.

These gains are the result of
higher compression ratios, lighter
rotors and revised intake system,
as well as an improved tur-
bo-charger for the Turbo model.

The non-turbo engine now revs
to 8,000 rpm.

Despite these performance in-
cteases, the 1989 RX-7 offers im-
proved fuel efficiency.

The new MOT fuel economy
ratings are: 20 mpg City/30 mpg
Highway for the non-turbo models
with five-speed transmission, 20
mpg City/29 mpg Highway for
non-turbo models with the four-
speed automatic transmission and
19 mpg City/29 mpg Highway for
the Turbo with five-speed manual.

The transmissions for the RX-7
models have been revised for 1989.

The five-speed manual transmis-
sion features a shorter shift lever
and an improved shift rod mecha-
nism to give the drivers a crisper,
more direct feel during gear

complete that it provides coverage

now color-keyed, giving the car a
cleaner, more integrated look.

For 1989, the 15” alloy wheels
standard on the GX, and GXL and
16”’ alioy wheels on the Turbo
models are restyled for improved
appearance and lighter weight.

The Convertible continues to
feature 15’ BBS alloy wheels.

Inside the 1989 RX-7, new seat
materials are used in the Base, GX,
GXL and Turbo models, and the

seat designs have been changed to
provide added latera] support for
cornering. Leather seats are now
standard in the Convertible and
optiona! in the GXL and Turbo.
