NORTH VANCOUVER
District Council en-
thusiastically introduced the
rezoning bylaw for the
Kilmer Creck Development
Area at its last council
meeting.

The design philosophy seeks to
blend new residential construction
into the natural landscape and re-
tain some of the forested charac-
ter. The plan calls for a total of
280 lots, comprising a mix of RS3
lots and larger RS2 Jots.

The RS2 lots are intended to
convey an estate-like character
and are located primarily above
East Braemar Road. Design
guidelines will be prepared to en-
courage a high quality of
development, protection of views
and the retention of significant
elements of the forest. In order to

(PRO).

The plan also designates a cen-
trally-located park site which will
include neighborhood — facilities
and a playing field. Various
unopened road allowances will
also be developed as pedestrian
connections between roads and to
facilitate access to the park site.

Ald. Mary Segal called the pro-
posal, ‘The beginnings of a very
good plan.”’ Ald. Ernie Crist was
more lavish with his praise. ‘This
will be a@ very exceptional
development, It will rival the best
they have to offer in West Van-
couver,’’ he said,

A public hearing into the pro-
posed zoning amendments was set
for Sept. 12, and in a later move
council confirmed Fritz de Vries
and Associates as the successful
consultant to prepare the residen-
tial design guidelines.
