TENTH-GRADER Nicole
Whittle had forgotten about
photographs her mother sent
away to Teen magazine last
April.

Then a letter arrived in
November saying her photograph
was being published is Teen's
January 1987 issue, and that she
was entered in the semi-finals of
the magazine's Great Model
Search 1987 contest.

‘It was surprising to see it was
there,” the Windsor Secondary
student said of her photograph in
the magazine.

But Whittle said the important
thing is to reach the contest’s
Super Finals which will probably
be held in May. The !5 year old

Her mother, who once modelled
herself, sent away 10 more
photographs to the magazine, she
said.

Hf Whittle wins the contest she
will receive a 1987 Mazda 323 hat-
chback, a $1,000 (US) wardrobe,
$5,000 (US) cash, a modelling con-
tract with Gillette and will appear
on the cover of the L.A.-based
Teen magazine.

Models who got their break on
the magazine's cover include
Cheryl Tiegs, Christina Ferrare
and.actress Cheryl Ladd.

Whittle’s mother started her
daughter’s modelling career in the
Vancouver area at the age of seven
and she has been doing Bay and
Woodward's ads in recent years.
This summer she competed in John
Casablanca’s worldwide Look of
the Year contest and made the
quarter finals.

She said the work is fairly casy,

up to $2,000 per hour,"’ she said.
