duplexes, townhouses and apartments during Ex-
po discriminates. against a certain category of '
, residents and harms the province as a whole.
B&B is presently permitted only in single-family
homes. The argument against extending it to multi-
family dwellings, advanced by deputy licensing director
Fred Smith, is based on the supposition that occupants
of other units might fiad the sharing of their building
with tourists ‘‘unacceptable’’.
Since even single-family homes are limited to a max-
imum of two boarders, such logic is difficult to follow.
-True, individual units in multi-family dwellings are in
“close proximity to one another. But so, to only a slightly
lesser. degree, are many older single-family homes,
separated by perhaps a mere 10 feet. Rowdy guests,
‘regardless of ‘whether or not they are paying for their ac-
comimodaticn, can be just as big a nuisance to neighbors
in the latter as'in the former.

. Todgy, many people have deliberately chosen to reside
in multi-family buildings and,like single-family dwellers,
they are “free to entertain non-paying guests in their
homes, To pretend that two well-behaved tourists paying
for a few days B&B are any more obnoxious insults all

common sense. . ;

-Accommodation for Expo. visitors in the metropolitan
area is already virtually exhausted. So, in addition to
discriminating against.a group of tax-paying residents,
the City’s ban also does a‘disservice to B.C. as a whole.
